Tracing Morocco’s Heritage: Meknes, Moulay Idriss, and Volubilis Day Trip
Overview
After a satisfying breakfast, prepare for a captivating one-day adventure that delves into the rich history of Morocco. Our first stop takes us to the city of Meknes, a fortified gem boasting impressive historical monuments encircled by towering defensive walls and adorned with nine grand gates.
Marvel at the colossal ramparts, stretching up to 15 meters in height, which have rightfully earned Meknes its reputation as one of the most breathtaking fortified cities in the entire Maghreb region.
As we enter the historic center through the majestic Bab Mansour, an architectural masterpiece and the grandest gateway in all of Morocco, prepare to be immersed in a world of wonder. The heart of the city unveils a treasure trove of over twenty-five mosques, palaces, hammams, vast granaries, remnants of fondouks (merchant hotels), and private residences dating back to the Almoravid, Merinid, and Alawite eras.
Next, we make our way to the captivating City of Moulay Idriss, where we pay homage to the tomb of the country’s first Sultan. Take a leisurely stroll through the charming alleyways of the Khiber district, located in the upper town, and be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the bustling agglomeration, the surrounding valley, the majestic Zerhoun massif, and the cylindrical minaret of the mausoleum.
Concluding our odyssey is a visit to the ancient Roman city of Volubilis. Explore the remarkable ruins, including a forum, capitol, basilica, triumphal arch, residential quarters, and oil mills. The beautifully preserved mosaics transform this Roman city into a captivating open-air museum, showcasing the splendor of a bygone era.

This is the best tour on the east coast! It was amazing how many places we visited and what great memories we made!
It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
